Farmapram (Alprazolam): Uses, Warning, Side Effects and Interaction

Farmapram is categorized as a benzodiazepine or benzo. They work by depressing the central nervous system which has a calming effect on the brain. They are more commonly known as minor tranquilizers or sedatives.

Consult with our mental health expert regarding the best medication to treat your anxiety.

How Farmapram Works?

Benzos enhance the activity of GABA receptors. This reduces the number of messages that go from the receptors to the other part of the brain. Benzos bind with the receptors which has the effect of calming down impulses that cause anxiety.

Without benzos, the impulses would cross over to the connectors that relay messages to the brain. Benzos reduce these messages from being relayed. They do this until feelings of stress or anxiety are reduced and eventually stopped until the next dose is taken.

The following table shows the conditions it is used to treat and typical dosages:

What is Alprazolam Used For?

Alprazolam is used to treat mental disorders including panic disorders, depression, anxiety and anxiety caused by depression. It is important that it is taken exactly as prescribed.

Alprazolam Side Effects and Warnings

Alprazolam shouldn’t be used by narrow-glaucoma patients. Neither should it be used by those who use ketoconazole or itraconazole and those who are allergic to it or are using similar medication such as Tranxene, Valium and Ativan. Pregnant women should not use it either.

Alprazolam can be habit-forming. It is also given under prescription and should be taken as indicated. Misuse can cause addiction and induce life-threatening problems like compromised breathing. It can also be fatal especially if taken with alcohol or other intoxicants.

Differences Between Xanax mg and Farmapram mg

There is no difference in terms of effect. Alprazolam is the active ingredient found in both. Different dosages are prescribed depending on individual health problems and factors like age, weight and any other health conditions.

To treat depression, adult patients are typically started on a prescription of 0.5mg fast-acting disintegrating tablets. Depending on how a patient responds, the dosage may be increased to mg to be taken twice or thrice daily. Again, following a patient’s response will determine if the dosage is prescribed.

It may be increased again but a prescription will never exceed 4.5mg. A strong dose will be taken in the form of extended-release tablets that are swallowed whole and not chewed, broken or crushed.

The same approach is taken if a patient is being treated for anxiety disorders. A patient will typically be started on a low-strength prescription that may be increased depending on their response. Anxiety disorder patients can get a prescription of up to 10mg a day while for stress patients, the limit is typically a maximum of mg. Older patients never get a prescription that exceeds mg per day.

Can Xanax Be Taken Into the U.S?

In the U.S, Farmapram is referred to by its generic name alprazolam  It is available for sale under the brand name Xanax. Both drugs contain the active ingredient alprazolam. The one difference is that U.S drug manufacturers Pfizer make Xanax while Mexican drug company Ifa Celtic manufacture Farmapram.

Farmapram is a benzodiazepine and a Schedule IV drug. It is therefore only available for purchase with a valid doctor’s prescription. This is the case not only in the U.S but in many other countries. It is also classified as a controlled substance under United Nations laws.

It is not allowed to transport Farmapram out of Mexico where it is made.  Neither it is allowed to transport Xanax out of the U.S. This is except for a patient who has a prescription for the drug. This is because the U.S and Mexico have different bodies that regulate their food and drugs.

For those who are traveling for a while, it would be advisable to take their prescription. This way, they get their prescription refilled where they are if necessary. The prescription will be given for the same dosage indicated.
